DirecTV TiVo THR22 Should be Shipping 1/30!

While the date is still an expectation and not a guarantee, we think it’s accurate. So if you’ve been holding off on ordering a new THR22 DirecTV TiVo because you didn’t know when we’d have them, now is the time to order!

We do still have a long list of people in line for these units, but we think we’ll get a pretty good allocation, and that should cover all we have on back-order, plus any orders between now and the 30th.

Another Well-Packed TiVo

This one was pretty amazing. The box was more than half empty, and yet, the box wasn’t crushed.

When I opened it, I assumed that the “cushioning material” was a big air bubble that had collapsed during shipping, but no, it was the package from the one layer of bubble wrap surrounding the TiVo.

Good thing this didn’t go via USPS – they would have absolutely destroyed it.

Dirtiest TiVo Ever?

OK, sure, you can make a TiVo as dirty as you want.

But as far as a working TiVo innocently plucked from it’s installed environment, we’re pretty sure this is the worst we’ve seen.

Amazingly, it seems untouched by any type of airflow whatsoever.

You should have seen the clouds when we blew this one out . . .

Another Great Customer Shipment

This customer was really considerate when he sent in his unit. He clearly didn’t have enough peanuts, so he re-used some recyclable material for the remainder of the padding.

Feel free to leave some full ones in there when you’re packing up your TiVo for a WeaKnees repair.

More Innovative TiVo Packaging

We do receive TiVos in here for repair all the time. Some are in the original packaging; some aren’t. Most are in some combination of bubble wrap and peanuts. But, sometimes you need your TiVo fixed, and all you’ve got are some old ties:

So, hey, need to have WeaKnees fix your TiVo, and need to dump some old clothes? Gotcha covered!

Oh – and have no fear. If you’re sending your TiVo to WeaKnees for repair, we do, in fact, have endcaps, if needed. This won’t make it back out of here as packing material.

Innovative Hard Drive Packaging

We see a lot of unusual boxes come through here, but this is something we haven’t seen before. A customer sent his hard drive in like this:

It looks pretty strong, but I don’t think it’s too feasible for us. They’d be rolling all over the office.

Secondhand Smoke is Bad for your TiVo!

I can’t believe the surgeon general isn’t all over this (or maybe it should be the technology czar?) but check out what secondhand smoke has done to the fan in this poor TiVo:

And that’s just the fan! I can’t even describe the hazmat situation of the rest of the unit.

Notice that your faithful hero is bare-handed on this one. That was a mistake.

There’s always something new coming through here. Check out this one:

Amazingly, given the age of the unit and the drives, it seems to have worked like this for several years. That’s pretty shocking to us, considering how that foam below the Maxtor would just hold the heat right against the drive. And the duct tape (haven’t seen it in that color before) keeps the whole thing vibrating nicely.

People, PLEASE! Spend the $14 for a TiVo Series1 upgrade bracket in the future!
