New TiVo HD Box Note

Posted on June 26th, 2009, by Michael

I just opened up a new pallet of TiVo HD units, and I saw this new graphic on the boxes:

So this made me think, are people mistakenly buying these boxes, assuming they’ll work with satellite TV? Or is TiVo changing the packaging so that they can distinguish it with the DirecTV HD TiVo when it ships?

I’m hoping that this means the latter, and that this also means they’re working on designing the packaging for it. Judging by the amount of requests we’re already getting for it, the DirecTV HD TiVo should be a pretty big hit.

2 Terabyte TiVo HD XL Now Shipping!

OK – we’ve been selling some 2 TB TiVos for a while, but not like this one. This one has ALL of the storage inside the unit, and it’s all on one 2 TB drive.

So now you can get the biggest capacity, all in one box. No external drive means no extra power plug, no cables, no lights, lower power requirements, etc.

The size is about the same capacity-wise as our 2 TB units that come with one internal terabyte drive and one external terabyte drive. And, sorry to say, due to the cost of these 2 TB drives, it costs a bit more. But you can’t beat the advantages.

For technical reasons, this size is only available on the TiVo HD XL. See our complete 2TB TiVo HD XL (Internal) product page.

Here’s a screenshot of the System Information screen:

The Best TiVo Shipment Yet

OK, so this one probably isn’t exactly the fault of the customer, but maybe the shipping company?

I’m pretty sure that with a little work we’ll get this baby up and running in no time.

So the moral of the story isn’t really “pack your TiVo well,” but “don’t let a truck run over your TiVo.”
