Posted on October 24th, 2007, by Michael

Now that larger drives compatible with the AppleTV units have been released and tested, we’re putting them in units. They’re still a little hard to source, but we have stock at the moment.

We have the larger complete unit, or we can upgrade your AppleTV unit, to either 160 GB or 250 GB. More space for music and video!

More Details on our eSATA Cases

Posted on October 24th, 2007, by Michael

We’ve had a number of inquiries into our eSATA cases that we’re using for our external drives for TiVo HD and TiVo Series3 units.

At WeaKnees, we’re fanatical about keeping drives cool. We choose drives and cases in large part for their heat and noise levels. All of our TwinBreeze brackets have included a mount for an extra, quiet fan. Along with power fluctuations, excess heat is one of the largest reasons drives fail.

So the eSATA case we’re using has a large fan, mounted in a cut-out below the drive. It sucks air in, past the hot side of the drive, and out. It also passes air by the metal casing, which acts to further cool the drive based on heat conduction. And since the fan is inside the metal case, it’s almost silent.

WeaKnees Releases eSATA External Drives for TiVo HD and TiVo Series3

Posted on October 23rd, 2007, by Michael

Starting today, we are now officially selling external upgrades for the two TiVo-brand HD units. In some cases, units will need to be sent to WeaKnees for us to perform the “marriage” of the two drives. Please see our TiVo HD External Storage page for full details.

We still strongly recommend internal upgrade solutions for these units for several reasons including space, heat, stability, and ease. But TiVo’s addition of the ability to use external storage just gives us another way to help users get more capacity in their TiVo units, validating what we’ve been doing for years.

Thanks for making this possible TiVo!

UPDATE: Many have expressed interest in getting an eSATA case with a Seagate DB 35 hard drive in it. Two of the three externals we offer have DB 35 drives: the 500 GB and the 750 GB.

Update: weaKnees boxes eligible for $199 TiVoHD Lifetime Transfer

Posted on October 12th, 2007, by Jeff

Yesterday we told you about the recent TiVo promotion that enables a limited number of lifetime service subscribers to transfer service to a TiVoHD for $199.

We now have confirmation from TiVo that TiVoHD units purchased from weaKnees are eligible for the transfer. Remember, only boxes with lifetime purchased prior to October, 2003 are eligible. You should definitely prequalify your TiVo service number.

If your number qualifies, order your TiVoHD and then call TiVo at 877-FOR-TIVO to make the transfer.
