Now we just need to find out what internal upgradable options exist… dual internal hard drives? Format and setup of existing hard drive?
Hopefully Weaknees will lead us to the promised land.

“We expect to be releasing upgrade information soon.”
Can you define “soon”? Before 10 business days, or after?

The main page says it that the Series 3 will hold 32 hours of HD programming — but what compression level is that?
How many hours of HD programming will it hold at maximum quality?

There are no compression levels to HD; it is stored in the format it is transmitted. If a show is sent at 720p, it saves it in 720p. If a show is sent in 1080i, it saves it in 1080i.
Compression only applies to the standard non-HD broadcasts.
So, in effect, it will actually store probably 25-35 hours of HD, depending on what HD shows you watch.

Given that this beast uses SATA drives, what we really need is a way to exactly mirror the stock 250gb drive onto a new 500gb or 750gb drive, preferably using the ESATA port on our existing PC. The old drive can then be used for something else.
Just my wish, anyway

If Weaknees offers a pre-expanded S3 unit with the warranty intact (like they do for S2 units), I’d much prefer to purchase that. With a base price of $800, I don’t want to be voiding my warranty.

When the S3 is recording 2 HD shows at the same time, and the unit is in standby, will the unit pass thru SD or HD thru the HDMI port to the TV input to view a Third live show??

Rob: no, the TiVo Series 3 it will not work in the way you describe. In fact, putting the TiVo in standby mode only discontinues image data from being sent to output. When the unit is recording two shows, you can only watch one of those two shows as they record or a third previously recorded show.
If you want to have HD to you TV when the TiVo is recording two things, you will want to splice the cable and have one go to the TiVo input and another go to the TV input.

are DirecTv cablecards available/existant yet for use in a S3 Tivo?

FVG: Satellite providers will never provide CableCards of any kind. They are not subject to the same provisions by the FCC as normal coax providers.
The satellite companies do a similar thing, wherein all satellite boxes use a smart card to identify a subscriber and activate a box; essentially that is all CableCards do. However, they are incompatible.
Satellite providers want you to buy their systems so they make money off the transaction. Cable providers want the same thing, but the FCC mandated CableCards for them (and they don’t like it).

It doesn’t have a DVD burner, so could one then burn non-HD content to a Humax TiVo DVD? I have only a series 1 and the Humax, so I’m not currently able to burn my older TiVo’s shows onto the newer TiVo’s DVD.
